The water level of Kalu Ganga is increasing with continuous rain being experienced in the Ratnapura District.
The area surrounding Ratnapura received rains of more than 100 mili-metres yesterday. The Irrigation Department said the Ratnapura water gauge of the Kalu Ganga had increased to 4.25 metres by 10a.m today. Rain is expected in Ratnapura, Pelmadulla, Hapugstenna and many other areas during the course of the day. The irrigation Department is maintaining vigilance over the water level and will issue warnings in case of a flood risk.
Meanwhile the Meteorological Department said that the rains are caused by atmospheric disturbances. Duty Officer at the Met Department Meteorologist Preethika Jayakody said this situation will gradually ease.
