The three member Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) disciplinary committee inquiring into the conduct of former deputy minister Mervyn Silva is to reconvene today (22).
The committee is headed by President’s Counsel Jayantha Weerasinghe and consists of Attorney-at-Law N.M. Saheed and Mahinda Samarasekera, who is also the secretary to the committee.
The committee convened for the first time on Friday (20) to inquire into Silva’s conduct, especially the tying of a Samurdhi officer to a mango tree in Kelaniya for not attending an anti-dengue campaign.
Following Silva’s action to tie up a Samurdhi officer to a tree, Samurdhi officers island wide launched protest campaigns against the act and called for action against him. President Mahinda Rajapaksa removed Silva from his deputy ministerial portfolio and suspended his party membership.
Silva gave evidence before the SLFP disciplinary committee on Friday (20).
