The flood situation which impacted several areas in the Ratnapura is easing. The weather has also improved. However, Coordinator of the District Management Centre Colonel Priyankara Abeyratne said that they were maintaining vigilance on the situation that may arise in the future.
He pointed out that by this morning an improvement was witnessed in the weather condition within the District. The water level in the Kalu Ganga had declined to eight feet. He noted that the Divisional Secretariat Divisions and the Disaster Committee have been appraised about the situation.
The sluice gates of the Lakshapana Reservoir have been closed down. This follows the easing of weather situation in the area. Heavy rain was experienced in many parts of the country for several days. As such three sluice gates of the Lakshapana Reservoir had to be opened s its water level started rising. The gates were opened six inches each. There is an improvement in the weather situation in the upper environs of the Reservoir. Accordingly, our correspondent said that action was initiated to close down the sluice gates.
In the meantime, there is an improvement in the weather situation in other areas. Meteorologist Gayana Hendavitharana said that the mid atmosphere disturbance was now moving away from the island.
