Minister Rajitha Senaratne has said that the Fisheries Ministry will be a pioneer in making Sri Lanka the economic centre of South Asia.
The Minister said that the country will become the miracle of Asia in five years. It will be made the economic centre of South Asia. He said that the Fisheries Ministry will be a forerunner in this task. He stressed that this target will be achieved jointly by the Fisheries, Tourism and the Urban Development Ministries. He stressed that the Fisheries Ministry will spend millions of rupees in the future for this purpose. The Minister expressed these views at a function to hand over fishing gear and bicycles worth 3.5 million rupees for fisher folk at Sampath-nuwara in Vavuniya. Fish fry numbering nearly one hundred thousand were released to the Ehatugas-Wewa fresh water reservoir.
