A group of Sri Lankans who were in Lebanon without valid visas has returned to the island.
The Lebanese government has offered a general amnesty for a period of three months for the migrant workers who are without visas, to return to their home countries. The Sri Lankans returned in two batches, each consisting of 50 persons. Their return was made possible with the intervention of the Sri Lankan embassy in Lebanon and the Foreign Employment Bureau. Chairman of the Foreign Employment Bureau Kingsley Ranawaka said that the remaining Sri Lankans will also be brought back before the amnesty period is over.
