Ninety nine percent of the resettlement work in Mannar has been completed.
Sixty five billion rupees has been allocated for the development of the resettled areas. This information came to light at a progress review meeting held under the patronage of Minister Basil Rajapaksa in Mannar. 46,774 persons belonging to 12,500 families were displaced in the Mannar district due to LTTE terrorism. Under the resettlement programme of the Government, 543 persons belonging to 145 families only remain to be resettled as at present. Hundred and forty one Grama Niladhari Divisions out of 153 divisions in the Mannar district have been de-mined. Only 50% of the remaining 12 Grama Seva divisions remain to be de-mined. 65 billion rupees allocated for the development of the North is being used for resettlement as well as development of the war ravaged areas. The progress of education, health, housing, road, agriculture, irrigation and sanitary facilities were reviewed at the meeting. Parliamentarians, Ministers and Government officials were amongst those who participated in the meeting held under the patronage of Minister Basil Rajapaksa.
