Two more scholars testify before LLRC

Two more Scholars testify before the Lessons Learnt and Reconciliation Commission (LLRC).

The second round of the sittings of the Commission commenced this morning. It was Prof. Rajiva Wijesinghe who was the head of the former Peace Secretariat who gave evidence. Thereafter, Manel Abeysekera, a former Senior Official of the Diplomatic Service testified before the Commission. The Seven-Member Commission is headed by former Attorney General C.R. De Silva. The Commission is tasked with investigating into incidents which happened during the unsuccessful implementation of the ceasefire which was effective from 1st February 2002 to 19th May 2009.

The Commission’s report is due to be presented to the President within six months. It will resume sittings on Wednesday. Coordinator of the Commission G.A. Gunawardena told Prime TV that Jayantha Danapala and Ashoka Gunawardena are due to testify on Wednesday.
