The National Museum Department has earned 11,723,941 rupees as annual income for 2009.
There are nine museums operating under the Department; namely the Colombo Museum, National Science Museum, Dutch Museum, Independence Commemoration Museum, Kandy Museum, Ratnapura Museum, Anuradhapura Museum, Galle Museum and Galle Maritime Museum. According to the National Museum Department annual report, the Colombo Museum has earned the largest income, which is 8,558,452 rupees or 73 percent of the total income. National Museum Director Nanda Wickramasinghe said the number of schoolchildren visiting the Colombo Museum from the North and East has increased after the eradication of terrorism and return of peace. The annual income of the Museum Department is expected to increase further.
