Aug 25, 2010 4:42:54 AM - itnnews.lk

Sri Lanka is to apprise Saudi Authorities of the hindrances experienced by a Sri Lankan woman in Saudi and to mete out justice to her.

Medical tests have revealed that there are nails and needles within the body of this woman who had been tortured and subjected to abuse while serving in Saudi Arabia. Deputy Minister Lakshaman Yapa Abeywardena visited the Kamburupitya Hospital where L.P.Ariyawathie is receiving treatment. He inquired into her welfare. Contacting the Chairman of the Foreign Employment Bureau on this occasion by phone the Deputy Minister told him to mete out justice to the woman by holding an immediate inquiry through the Saudi Welfare Officer and the Ambassador. The Deputy Minister emphasized that the Saudi Authorities should be forced to take legal action against the Saudi couple who abused her. He added that the Foreign Minister should also be briefed on this incident. The woman is expected to undergo an operation on Thursday to remove the nails.
