The Sri Dalada Perahera festival has ended. The final Randoli Perahera paraded the streets last night as usual with pomp and pageantry.
Hundreds of thousands of people of all walks of life and every part of the country converged on the Kandy City to view the Perahera. President Rajapaksa also joined in viewing the Perahera. After parading the streets the Perahera returned to the Gedige Vihare of the Asgiriya Temple. The casket was being kept at this Vihare until the Water Cutting ceremony. This traditional Water Cutting ceremony was held under the patronage of the Basnayake Nilames of four Devales. Many people were present to witness this occasion. The Water Cutting Perahera was received near the Mulgampola Bodhi by a group including First Lady Shiranthi Rajapaksa. Ministers Nimal Siripala de Silva and Susil Premajayantha were present.
Meanwhile the President will be officially intimated that the Esala Perahera festival was being successfully conducted. Thereafter the Sri Dalada Perahera festival will officially draw to a close
