Editor of the “Lanka Irida” newspaper Chandana Sirimalwatte who was accused of contempt of Court has been warned and released.
The charges against the Editor were taken up before a three-Judge bench comprising Chief Justice Ashoka de Silva. The Supreme Court released him following an apology made in Courts. He said he regretted if any insult was caused to the Judiciary by their publication. The Editor was directed to publish the corrections with the same prominence in his newspaper. He was accused of bringing the Judiciary into contempt by the publication of a news item on the 27th of June this year.
