The Kandy Esala Festival which was held with pomp and pageantry has drawn to a successful close.
The Diyawadana Nilame Pradeep Nilanga Dela, maintaining ancient traditions intimated this to President Rajapaksa this afternoon. The intimation was made to the President in the form of a memorandum. The Basnayake Nilames of the four Maha Devales along with the Diyawadana Nilame arrived at the President’s House in Kandy in a Perahera to hand over the memorandum. They were accompanied by artistes.
First Lady Shiranthi Rajapaksa, Central Province Governor Tikiri Kobbekaduwa and Chief Minister Sarath Ekenayake were present at this event. The President fed the Elephants which participated in the Perahera with fruits. Artistes who made a vital contribution for the success of the Perahera received awards and certificates from the President.
