The spring holiday is starting a day early at one South Carolina middle school after about a dozen teachers called in sick with Norovirus-like symptoms.
Multiple media outlets reported that Moultrie Middle School in Mount Pleasant was closed Thursday because of concerns about the illness, which causes nausea, vomiting, diarrhea and stomach cramps.
The school already was to be closed Friday, with classes resuming on April 12.
The number of sick teachers amounted to about a quarter of the faculty.
School district spokesman Elliot Smalley says there have been no confirmed Norovirus cases among students. Officials hope closing the school will avoid an outbreak among students.
