Minister S.B. Dissanayake has stressed that a massive change is to take place in the university sector.
The Minister pointed out that as enunciated in the Mahinda Chinthana, Universities should mould youths who could look at the world over the horizon. Students cannot say that they lack English knowledge when they leave the universities as vocational courses will be introduced in addition to their normal degree course. These will be conducted in English language. He said that the students will have to pay a fee for these classes and therefore a loan scheme will be introduced in this connection. He said that the English knowledge of the students will be improved through this.
The Minister was speaking at the inauguration of the Women’s College of the Sanasa Education Centre at Paragammana in Kegalle. Several Parliamentarians and Ministers were present.
