The pilot of a small plane has died after the aircraft crashed just short of the runway at a coastal South Carolina airport.
Georgetown County Sheriff's Lt. Neil Johnson told The Sun News of Myrtle Beach that the plane went down Wednesday morning about 150 yards from the Andrews Airport. The pilot was the only person on board.
Federal officials say National Transportation Safety Board investigators are heading to the airport to begin work to determine the cause of the crash.
The name of the pilot has not been released.
The National Weather Service says it was cloudy with light winds at the time of the crash.
