Another 10 Sri Lanka fishermen arrested in Tamil Nadu have been released. They have now returned to the island.
The Ministry of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources said that the fishermen arrested for crossing into Indian territorial waters had been handed over to the Sri Lanka Navy at the Kalpitiya coastal area. Earlier too 40 fishermen who were taken into custody by Tamil Nadu authorities returned home in nine fisheries trawlers. The number of fishermen released by the Tamil Nadu authorities so far is 67. Their release was secured following the mediation of Minister Rajitha Senaratne. The Minister said speedy action will be initiated to get down the remaining Lankan fishermen who are in the custody of Tamil Nadu authorities.
