Special educational programmes are being launched for the benefit of rehabilitated LTTE cadres. The prime purpose is to make them contributors to country’s development process.
The special educational programmes have been mooted to re-integrate the rehabilitated LTTE cadres as productive citizens at the behest of the President. The programme is in progress at the Vavuniya and Jaffna Rehabilitation Centres under the guidance of the Defence Secretary.
Accordingly 120 boys and 48 girls are due to sit the future G.C.E. Ordinary Level Examination. 228 boys and 98 girls are sitting the Advanced Level Examination. The Rehabilitation Commissioner General’s Office said 16 of them are facing the Examination in the Bio Science field, 12 from the Arts field, 65 from Commerce and the balance 230 from the Maths division.
Renuka Sevaruban, the Principal of the Punthottam Rehabilitation Centre opined that 21 talented and experienced teachers made a vital contribution in imparting knowledge to these students. Also several workshops were organized for their benefit. The programme includes the granting of opportunities to them to continue their studies after the Examinations.
