The police took to the streets of Colombo today to educate people on the perils of jaywalking, said police spokesman SP Prishantha Jayakody. The police spokesman said they would not be imposing a fine on offenders.
“The reason we did this, is we got information that there were a lot of accidents being caused due to people jaywalking,” Jayakody said. Members of the police force patrolled the streets and advised jaywalkers to use the yellow pedestrian crossing.
A similar initiative was held in Kandy. However offenders in Kandy were subjected to a fine.
