Minister Basil Rajapaksa concludes his Indian visit achieving many benefits in several sectors.
President’s Secretry Lalith Weeratunge and Defence Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa accompanied the Minister. The Minister and his entourage during their two day visit had discussions with several key Ministers as well as high level officials. A special discussion was held with India’s National Security Advisor Shiv Shankar Menon, Defence Secretary Pradeep Kumar and Foreign Secretary Nirupama Rao.
Submissions were made on the present situation in Sri Lanka, the progress of the resettlement programme and the development that is taking place in the North and East. A notable achievement in this tour was the support pledged by India for Sri Lanka’s agriculture and tourism industries. An awareness programme on the island’s tourism industry was also organized. An opportunity was provided to appraise the Indian polity about Sri Lanka’s tourism industry.
