The Government is adopting maximum measures to overcome corruption and fraud related to medicinal drugs. Minister Maithripala Sirisena made this reference at a function organized in Colombo.
The Minister said they expected the private sector to develop. The Government will extend its fullest support in this respect. If the existing laws are insufficient to eliminate fraud, corruption and malpractices, he said he planned to enact regulations to carry out the relevant activities. Maximum punishment should be meted out to penalize pharmacies for sell state drugs. Handing minimum punishment is not sufficient.
The Minister was speaking at the Annual General Meeting of the Sri Lanka Drugs Suppliers Council. Entrepreneurs of the private sector supplying drugs to the Health sector are members of this council. Contributors to the upliftment of the sector were honoured.
