Tourists in large numbers are visiting the historic Lanka Patuna Samudragiri Vihare in Trincomalee.
Devotees did not have the opportunity of visiting the Vihare due to terrorism which plagued the country for 30 years. However, with the eradication of terrorism from the country local as well as foreign tourists have begun to visit this historic site. The Minneriya Seven Engineering Force has shouldered the task of rebuilding the Lanka Patuna Bridge for the convenience of those visiting the temple. The bridge was ravaged by the terrorists during the Mavil Aru conflict. The bridge which is 245 feet long has a width of 28 feet. The reconstruction work is due to be completed within a very short time.
