Embassy intervenes in the case of the housemaid subjected to torture

All reports concerning the female migrant worker who underwent inhuman treatment while being employed as a housemaid have been sent to Saudi Arabia.

“Arab News” reported that medical reports pertaining to the surgery and tests have already been received by the Sri Lankan Embassy in Saudi Arabia. L.T. Ariyawathie who was tortured by her employer by inserting nails into her body is recovering after undergoing surgery to remove the nails. The Sri Lankan Embassy in Saudi Arabia said that it would exert pressure on the Saudi Government to take stringent action against the employer who was responsible for the torture. According to the prevailing laws the Embassy does not have powers to take direct action against the employer. The Embassy said hence action will be taken through the Saudi Foreign Ministry. A video recording of her evidence as well as the Arabic translation of evidence has already been received by the Saudi Government. It is expected to take maximum measures against the culprits.
