The proposed Constitutional Amendments will be presented to the peoples’ representatives during the next few days.
The President and the Government has made arrangements to introduce Constitutional Amendments to create a new political framework that would strengthen the development process and the provincial administrative structure, conducive to the environment created after the elimination of terrorism. The Government is enjoying more than a two-thirds majority in Parliament. The Government sources say that the initial documents on the amendment will be presented to the Cabinet this week. After subjecting it to detailed discussion in the Cabinet, it will be presented to the Parliament next week. The Constitutional Amendments will be presented to the Sri Lanka Freedom Party membership at the SLFP Convention scheduled to be held next week. It is the intention of the President and the Government to submit Constitutional Amendments which will purely meet the aspirations of the people.
