Strict action will be taken against those who sell drugs imported by the Government for State Hospital to given provided free of charge to the patients. Minister Maithripala Sirisena said that new laws will be enacted if the existing laws are not sufficient to handle the issue.
The Minister said 90 billion rupees is being spent annually for the health services. He said that the Government will not tolerate if drugs provided free of charge to the people, are being sold by the hospital employees. The highest punishment will be meted out to such persons. The Minister opined that they were mulling over the enactment of new legislation the prevailing laws are inadequate.
The Minister was speaking while handing over 450 appointment letters for Nurses who underwent training at the Nurses Training School in Kandana. They will be posted to hospitals where vacancies exist. Parliamentarian Sudharshini Fernandopulle was among those present on the occasion.
