India has assured maximum support to Sri Lanka in the resettlement process. The pledge was given by India’s Foreign Secretary Nirupama Rao who is touring the North.
Mrs. Rao undertook a tour of the North today. She reached the Vavuniya Defence Headquarters by air and visited the Menik Farm Welfare Camp at Settikulam. She inquired into the welfare of the displaced and had talks with the Vavuniya District Secretary and officials. The Indian Foreign Secretary assured to extend all possible assistance for resettlement and rehabilitation activities in the North. Agreement was reached to deploy a group to extend Indian assistance for the acceleration of demining so that resettlement could be expedited.
