Bluff Road residents near I-77 told to boil water

Residents of the Bluff Road area between Idlewild Boulevard and Interstate 77 are asked to boil their water until further notice before drinking it or cooking with it.
The area affected includes the Arthurtown subdivision and the large apartment complexes along Bluff that are home to many USC students, including The Retreat, The Lofts and Copperbeach.
The boil water notice will continue overnight, at least until 7 a.m. Wednesday, according to officials with the city of Columbias water division.
Boiling should be vigorous and continue for at least one minute, according to city and state health officials. Also, any ice made from water that has not been boiled should not be used for drinking purposes.
City employees are working to repair a break in a nearby 10-inch water main, which can allow bacteria to collect. Testing will determine if the water is clear, city water officials report.
