The SLFP celebrates its 59th anniversary at a time when the country is being steered towards a golden era.
The SLFP was founded on 2nd September 1951 under the leadership of S.W.R.D. Bandaranaike. The party unified the five forces comprising Buddhist monks, Ayurvedic Physicians, Teachers, Farmers and Workers. The late Mr. D.A.Rajapakse, father of President Mahinda Rajapakse took the lead in following the steps of the Late Mr. Bandaranaike and crossed over to the opposition.
The SLFP which celebrates its 59th anniversary has become a formidable power due to the visionary and strong leadership given by President Rajapaksa. 117 Parliamentarians representing the SLFP are in Parliament today. It is the highest number to represent the party in the Legislature.
It is a notable fact that the massive development projects such as the construction of the Magampura International Harbour, the Mattala International Airport, the Moragahakande Reservoir, the Upper Kotmale Reservoir, the Norochcholai Thermal Power Plant, The Ranminitenna Tele Village, Expressways and Railways and the Hambantota and Diyagama National Stadiums have been launched by the government.
The construction of massive road networks from the South to the North under President Rajapaksa’s leadership will pave the way for the country to become the “Asia’s Miracle.”
