26 suspects who were allegedly engaged in human trafficking have been remanded. They are believed to have sent various persons including tiger terrorists to Australia in fishing vessels.
The CID has arrested these suspects on the information provided by 140 persons who were prepared to leave for Australia when arrested in Matara recently. The CID said that the organizers of the journey were arrested after interrogating these persons. People from the North and East including LTTE terrorists have been illegally shipped by the suspects. They were produced before the Colombo Magistrate’s Court and were remanded till the 16th of this month.
