UNP Leader fears to face President poll – Minister

Sep 3, 2010 12:31:29 PM - itnnews.lk

Minister Rajitha Senaratne has remarked that Ranil Wickremasinghe was averse to the Constitutional Amendments due to fear of facing another Presidential Election. The Minister was participating in the “Thulawa” live programme which was telecast over ITN last night.

The Minister claimed that Ranil Wickremasinghe was against the Executive Presidency. They were the pioneers of the Executive Presidency. Whenever he faced elections he was defeated. Now he fears to face a third Presidential Poll. As such he is averse to the Executive Presidency. In General, Provincial Council and Local Government polls, he can share the defeat with the others in the party. But he cannot do it in a Presidential Election. The Minister added that the only way to skip it was to oppose the Presidential system.
