The Government is mulling over the adoption of a National Policy on pre-schools. It is planned to be implemented from next year.
Expressing views at a programme organized for pre-schools, Minister Bandula Gunawardena said that attention is being drawn to the crafting of a Pensions Scheme for Pre- School teachers. The event was held at the New Town Hall Colombo. The Minister was of the opinion that pre-school education which targets pre-childhood development of the future children should be streamlined. He pointed out that pre childhood education sans a better standard will mould a group which does not care for the country or respect the adults.
The Minister said that a curricula should be drawn up for the pre-schools after the conduct of a comprehensive survey. Thereafter, a teacher’s handbook should be prepared based on the curricula. He noted that the text book should be prepared according to the teacher’s handbook. All pre-schools should be registered with the Provincial Council. Pre-school education should be formulated so that it would have unity in its standard and be beneficial to the children as well as the country. He emphasized that the Government’s intention was to have such a national policy for pre-schools.
The training programme was an effort by the Western Provincial pre-school unit. A group including Provincial Ministers was present.
