President Rajapaksa has emphasized that he will fulfil the responsibility of building a prosperous country for the people. Addressing the Maha Sangha in Badulla, the President said that the development programmes will be carried out properly as enunciated in the Mahinda Chinthana.
The President pointed out that the country should be built. There is no time to waste. If not there is no use of the mandate given by the people to the government. The Government had a proper path. The Mahinda Chinthana clearly mentions the path that should be taken. The President recalled how the manifestoes presented at the earlier Presidential polls and general elections had been thrown into the dustbin. It is not so this time. The President noted that s stated in the Mahinda Chinthana, the country would be developed assuring a better life for the people as well as for the workers.
Members of the Maha Sangha of the Uva Province, including Chief Incumbents of Vihares met the President at the Uva Provincial Auditorium. Pointing out that the era in which election manifestoes were thrown into the dustbin is over, the President underlined that he would implement the Mahinda Chinthana to the letter. The people of the Uva Province will receive many benefits through the mega development programmes including Harbours and Airports. He noted that the people of the Uva Province should be ready to be stakeholders of development receiving such benefits. Several Parliamentarians were present.
