The proposed reforms would go down in history as the amendment that would be passed with the highest majority, Prime Minister D M Jayaratne said addressing a public meeting at Gampola yesterday. He appealed to Opposition members who have decided to oppose the Amendment to support it and fortify it further for the sake of the country.
He described as a good omen the decision of some UNPers to support the Constitutional Amendments. Since the amendment would allow the people to keep in power any leader that they like because it is an extension of democracy, the Prime Minister said.
