The Constitution has to reflect the aspirations of the people and must have legal provisions to meet the needs of the people, especially in the context of the fast changing circumstances. In other words, the Constitution of Sri Lanka should be people-focused. The Government in bringing the amendments has kept the above in mind, Economic Development Deputy Minister Lakshman Yapa Abeywardena said.
In other words, the envisaged amendments to the existing Constitution are more people-centric, he added.
"As such there is no reason for certain opposition elements to oppose the move," the Deputy Minister said expressing his view on the matter to the Daily News yesterday.
