Constitutional Amendments will be passed – Minister

Minister Maithripala Sirisena has said that the Constitutional Amendments will be passed in Parliament with a 2/3 majority. He stressed that the number of Parliamentarians supporting the Amendments will exceed 160 within the next 48 hours.

The Minister expressed this view at a function at the Mahapola Gnanapradeepa Youth Centre in Mirigama. Minister Basil Rajapaksa and Parliamentarian Wasantha Senanayake were among the dignitaries present. The Minister Maithreepala Sirisena said that the UNP and the JVP are now limited to name boards only. The Minister further said that economic development could be experienced through the Constitutional Amendments to place Sri Lanka on par with other developed countries. The Minister stressed that the term of President has not been extended by the proposed amendment. He said that the UNP and the JVP are making an incorrect interpretation.
