Sri Lanka has been urged to use Malaysia as a springboard to enter the ASEAN market, which is home to over half a billion consumers.
Malaysia’s High Commissioner in Colombo Rosli Ismail made the call in New Delhi. The Bernama news agency quoted him as saying that Malaysia’s strategic location in the heart of ASEAN provides vast opportunities for Sri Lankan businesses to venture into Southeast Asian markets. The envoy noted that through the ASEAN Free Trade Area, which has access to over 500 million people and a market worth over 900 million US dollars, Malaysia offers a unique platform for Sri Lankan companies. Commenting on bilateral relations, Mr. Ismail said that with the defeat of terrorism, there would be greater opportunity for trade and investment between the two countries. He added that Malaysia is ready to share its knowledge and experience with Sri Lanka in areas where it has the expertise.
