UNP MPs say they took decision according to their conscience

United National Party members have emphasized that they opted to support the Constitutional Amendments in accordance with their conscience and not with the expectation of privileges.

These Parliamentarians claimed that President Rajapaksa was the decisive factor in the process of carrying forward the country. He had already proven this practically. Lakshman Seneviratne, Earl Gunasekera, Manusha Nanayakkara, Nimal Wijesinghe, Praba Ganeshan, P. Digambaram, Abdul Cader, Sri Ranga, Palitha Range Bandara, Ranjith Maddumabandara and Upeksha Swarnamali are the UNP Parliamentarians who took the decision to pledge support to the Constitutional Amendments.

Eight members of the Muslim Congress including its leader Rauf Hakeem cast their vote in favor of the Constitutional Amendment Bill. Another member who joined in taking this progressive decision was Podi Appuhamylage Piyasena, the Tamil National Alliance member representing the Digamadulla District.
