The United National Party members who pledged support to the Constitutional Amendment have crossed over to the Government group.
These members took seats in the Government group after a speech made by Kandy District UNP Parliamentarian Abdul Cader. The members who crossed over to the Government group were Earl Gunasekera, Lakshman Seneviratne, Manusha Nanayakkara, Nimal Wijesinghe, Abdul Cader and Upeksha Swarnamali. The group was warmly welcomed by the Government Parliamentarians. Speaking before the crossover, Abdul Cader said they would not reverse this decision. It was their view that they should now join hands with the Government and extend their support to the President to develop the country.
