Sep 8, 2010 12:02:55 PM - thesundayleader.lk

The 18th Amendment to the Constitution was passed in parliament with 161 voting in favour and 17 against.
The DNA and the TNA, excluding TNA MP for Ampara district M. Piyasena, voted against the 18th Amendment.
However a total of 17 UNP parliamentarians including eight SLMC members, Prabha Ganeshan and Palani Digambaram who were elected from the UNP voted in support of the amendments. TNA’s Piyasena voted in favour of the amendment.
Meanwhile, UNP parliamentarians Lakshman Seneviratne, Earl Gunasekara, Manusha Nanayakkara, Upeksha Swarnamali, Nimal Wijesinghe and Abdul Carder crossed over to the government and voted in favour.

UNP MP Jaya Sri Ranga voted for the 18th Amendment while sitting in the opposition.

The UNP yesterday (7) announced its decision to boycott the sessions claiming the amendments were unconstitutional.
