Muslims celebrate Eid – Ul – Fitr today. It marks the end of Ramadan, the Islamic holy month of fasting
The Muslims who fasted for one month according to the teachings of Islam celebrate Eid – Ul – Fitr marking end of the period of fasting. The Muslims displayed brotherhood and equality in observing fast until last night. The new moon was sighted last night according to Islamic tradition. The religious leaders including Ulemas who met yesterday at the Grand Mosque announced that the new moon was sighted in Sri Lanka as well. Accordingly the month of Shawwal has begun from last night ending the month of fasting. Sri Lankan Muslims join the people who follow the Islamic faith throughout the world in celebrating Eid.
