South Carolina's Department of Juvenile Justice is celebrating a decline in youth crime by demolishing one of the agency's oldest dormitories.
The department on Friday is holding a ceremony to tear down the dorms on the John G. Richards Campus in Columbia. Officials say the dorms were declared unsafe nearly two decades ago.
Gov. Mark Sanford and DJJ director Bill Byars are scheduled to speak at the event.
This year, DJJ says its incarcerated population hit an all-time low, dropping to 195 youth in August.
