Prime Minister D.M.Jayaratne has said that the services discharged by the Maha Sangha in the development of the country are invaluable.
The Prime Minister said it was due to the Maha Sangha that Sri Lanka, her culture and the Sinhala Language were safeguarded. On behalf of the 2600th Sambuddha Jayanthi, their intention was to build a country rife with moral ethics.
The Prime Minister was attending a series of religious ceremonies organized at the Muthiyangana Raja Maha Vihare in Badulla. The Prime Minister participated in the launch of many development projects at the Vihare. The Prime Minister laid the foundation stone for the new two-storeyed resting hall of the MuthiyanganaVihare. Minister Nimal Siripala de Silva, Uva Governor Nanda Mathew and Parliamentarian Udith Lokubandara were among those present.
