The stage is set for the 25th conference of the World Buddhist Congress to commemorate its 60th anniversary. A number of programmes will be launched for the benefit of Buddhism.
The Prime Minister said that Buddhism will be propagated in the world through this programme. A spiritual and a religious development will be achieved by connecting with the world. Plans are afoot with regard to the future economic situation as well. He said that an understanding of the foreign countries will be obtained by working with the members of the Maha Sangha and visits will be made to those countries in order to connect with them.
The 60th anniversary of the World Buddhist Congress will be celebrated in Sri Lanka. The Prime Minister made this observation at a media briefing held to raise awareness in this connection. The conference themed ‘reconciliation through Buddhism’ will focus on historic socio-economic and cultural backgrounds and Buddhist vision on education. The 25th conference will be held from 14th to 17th of next month at the Cinnamon Grand Hotel while the 60th anniversary will be commemorated at the Sugathadasa Indoor Stadium.
