The BTI bacteria imported from Cuba will be utilized in the dengue control programme within the next few days.
It is planned to launch a trial on the use of the Cuban bacteria from Kandy. In addition to Kandy, Akurana and Gampola areas will also be utilized for the conduct of the trial. The BTI is being utilized as a strategy for the destruction of the dengue mosquito larva. 10,000 litres of BTI was imported from Cuba under the first stage with the mediation of the Health Ministry and the Cuban Embassy in Sri Lanka. The Health Ministry said that the local bacterium is also being used in the Dengue eradication programme.
