A Graphite deposit has been found in a village in Nuwara Eliya. The detection was made from Norton Bridge in Hatton which is expected to give a further boost to the country’s economy.
The graphite deposit was recovered from a land at Jambutenne in Norton Bridge. Some youths had been carrying out illegal mining. The existence of the deposit came to light when a raid was conducted by the Norton Bridge Police. About 2000 kilograms of graphite was seized and some suspects arrested. They were produced before the Hatton Courts. Action will be initiated for the granting of licenses for the legal conduct of mining, after securing a report from the National Geological and Mines Bureau. It is hoped that this would generate new jobs to the youths of the area while giving an additional boost to the economy.
