De-mining of Vadamarachchi East in Jaffna has been completed. As such the resettlement of the displaced is now in progress.
Plans are afoot to carry out the resettlement process under several stages. 81 families will be resettled in the first stage, while the number of families to be resettled in stage two is 159. Many programmes, including the development of infrastructure in addition to the buildings of houses are already being launched.
Jaffna Commanding Officer Major Gen. Mahinda Hathurusinghe said that 81 families would be resettled this month inn the Vadamarachchi East as the removal of mines has been completed. Within another two months, another 151 families are expected to be resettled.
The civilians have appreciated the moves initiated by the Government for enabling them to resettle in their places of origin. They had to evacuate their villages in the Vadamarachchi East, about 15 years back due to LTTE terrorist activities.
