Sri Lanka is in the top among the World Giving Index. It is the 8th country in the world which has registered a high level of contentment. This is revealed in a survey conducted by the UK’s Charities Aid Foundation.
The survey took place in 153 countries. It covered 95 percent of the world’s population. It suggested that well-being is a more reliable indicator of philanthropy than wealth. Sri Lanka was ranked as the eighth country which suggested that people are the most generous in the world with their time.
Researchers from Gallup found that predictably some of the richer countries with strong histories of philanthropy come out top, such as Australia, New Zealand, Canada, the Republic of Ireland and Switzerland. Sri Lanka occupies the eighth place along with Britain. While Sri Lanka is the only country to be ranked among the Asian nations where high levels of contentment are registered, it is also the only Asian country to occupy this place.
