The government claims that former LTTE international wing leader Kumaran Pathmanathan alias KP has not formed a non-government organization (NGO) to develop the North and East.
Head of the Government’s NGO Secretariat and Director General, Media Center for National Security (MCNS) Lakshman Hulugalle told The Sunday Leader that KP has not formed an NGO and that the Secretariat had not been informed of it.
When asked if he did not have any knowledge of an NGO named North East Rehabilitation and Development Organization (NERDO) formed by KP, Hulugalle said he was not aware of it and that the formation of such an NGO has not been informed to the NGO Secretariat.
“All I know is that KP is under intelligence custody and he is still being questioned,” he said.
However, KP in an interview with The Sunday Leader referring to getting funds for development, rehabilitation and peace has said there were discussions with the government to form an NGO to help the people in the North and East together with the diaspora, adding “When the work of the NGO starts and when the diaspora themselves see that development is happening, there will be a gradual understanding and along with that the funding will come down.”
