Minister Bandula Gunawardena has said that there is an improvement of 10 percent of the results of the G.C.E. Ordinary Level this year, in comparison to last year’s results.
The Minister pointed out that around 300 thousand students sat the examination last year and of this a little more than 150 thousand did not succeed. As such more than half the students were unable to pass the Examination. As such he said that on the instructions of the President, he as the Minister in charge of the Education Portfolio formulated a target that should be met. Accordingly their target was that there should be an improvement of at least 10 percent when compared with the results last year. He revealed of plans drawn up in this respect with the involvement of Provincial Ministers, Chief Ministers, Ministry Secretaries and Regional Educational Directors.
The Minister was speaking at a seminar organized for children sitting this year’s Ordinary Level Examination. It was arranged by Royal College Colombo. Speaking further, the Education Minister emphatically stated that a series of disciplinary laws should be enforced for students. Several officials of the Education Ministry were present.
