Minister Patali Champika Ranawaka has referred to the programmes mooted by the Government to provide electricity to everyone by the year 2012.
The Minister said that the Government will be spending 39 billion rupees to take electricity to all villages. 4593 Projects are being launched to meet this target. This assurance has already been given in the Mahinda Chinthana Extended Version. He pointed out that Sri Lanka is the only country in Asia which is providing power during 24 hours of the day.
The Minister was speaking at the opening of the Bandaragama Regional Electricity Engineers Office. Speaking further, he added that this would facilitate power consumers in the area. Many officials of the Electricity Board were present.
