Minister Dallas Alahapperuma has stressed that the differences of community, religion and cast should not be considered when solving youth problems.
The Minister said the President made four requests from the Education Minister after he took oaths. He requested that the Tamil and Muslim students who have no knowledge of the Sinhalese language, be taught Sinhalese. Tamil language should be taught to Sinhalese children who lack knowledge on Tamil.
He said that both groups should be educated in English and Computer science. The President’s stand is that there is no minority in the country as he has understood the prevailing situation. The Minister said that the Federation of Youth Societies and the Youth Services Council should be forerunners in achieving this aim within the Youth Affairs Ministry.
The Minister was speaking at a youth conference held in Chilaw on ‘recognition of youth problems and how they can effectively participate in the development of the country’. More than 700 youths of 330 Youth Societies participated in the conference.
